Winter Women (Wintercomfort)

Wintercomfort is one of twenty nine charities from across England, working with women who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, that has been awarded a grant from Homeless Link’s Ending Women’s Homelessness grants programme, funded by the Government’s Tampon Tax Fund.

Wintercomfort- a day centre for homeless people in Cambridge opens at 8.30 am and closes every day at 2pm. During the hours of 2pm-4pm we will deliver a women’s only day service.

Activities will be delivered by our female Project Worker and assisted by specialist volunteers. All volunteers will be women. They will be vetted, advanced DBS checked and will complete our extensive induction programme. They will also receive training on working with women with multiple disadvantages. Our female specialist housing adviser will regularly attend Winter Women, providing 1-2-1 advice and support.

There will be a strong peer support element. These sessions will enable women to spend time with other women with similar experiences. The space will be designed using soft furnishings and refreshments will be provided, encouraging women to talk in a calm and safe environment. There will also be a separate space for women if they require a private 1-2-1 conversation.

Sarah Hall, CEO of Wintercomfort, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded this grant to support homeless women in Cambridge. We know that the new Winter Women Project will make a significant difference to so many women’s lives.

"The design of Winter Women has been based on the principles of holistic, gender sensitive support for those with complex needs.”
