This session will focus on:

  • How solicitors can assist you to get the best results for the people you support;
  • When it is appropriate to contact a solicitor about a case;
  • Some key points of Housing Law and how cases can be challenged;
  • Where else you can access legal advice and guidance;
  • How best to prepare your client to meet with a solicitor;
  • How best you can support a successful clients/solicitor relationship;

Sarah is likely to cover additional areas as seem appropriate to her however, the primary focus will be on housing and homelessness law.

If you are unfamiliar with the core principles of homelessness legislation, please take a moment to read some as outlined HERE. Many other online resources are also available.

We will also ensure there is time set aside for Q&A. Additionally, if you have any case studies or specific questions (anonymised) please share these with Greg in advance and he will share with Sarah.

The London Day Centre’s Community of Practice is open to staff and volunteers from day centres providing support to people who are rough sleeping and homeless across the capital.  Those from affiliated services such as homeless health workers, mental health services, criminal justice, the DWP, Social Enterprises, work and learning providers and other support projects are also welcome however the emphasis will remain on sharing good practice for day centres.

Homeless Link Communities of Practice are designed to bring together people working on the frontline of homelessness and related fields within local areas. The aim is to create a safe and informal space in which attendees can share their knowledge and good practice, discuss local issues, and explore how best to collaboratively overcome them.

Our CoP’s are open to paid and unpaid workers and to people with lived experience of homelessness.

We facilitate events using a Solution Focused Practice approach so that problems are acknowledged but not dwelt on; instead, we look at building on existing resources and skills to work towards a shared, preferred future – as well as expanding knowledge where required. As this is an online event, the format will vary however, we will endeavour to leave you feeling positive, hopeful and better connected to the bigger picture.
