Who is the project for?

Who do we help?

Young single homeless people aged 16-25 with low to medium support needs. Includes care leavers, young offenders and unaccompanied asylum seeking children.

Who we cannot help

No automatic exclusions.

How to get a referral

Referral agencies

Referrals to East Street or Aylestone Centre for High/Med support needs via Leicester City council Housing Options service. Referrals to shared houses for low support for people in education, employment or training can be accepted directly to The Y.

Referrals via Housing Options Service or contact The Y in person or by phone for further advice.

Length of stay

  • Minimum stay: 7 months
  • Maximum stay: 2 years

Support and accommodation

Support offered

Staff based on-site 24 hours, night premises officers. On-call emergency system. Keywork system. Staff provide practical and emotional support around life skills, budgeting, benefits, finding training/employment.

Rooms and charges

Average weekly personal charge is £9.31 (room), £11.20 (flat) and £11.22 (shared house). Electricity is paid separately averaging £3-5 per week depending on season.

Rules and policies

House rules and tenure

Smoking allowed in outside decking area space only. No alcohol allowed on site at East Street or Aylestone Centre. Written Licence and support agreement, and Resident Guide to Living at The Y provided. Standard rules include no drugs, alcohol use, anti-social behaviour or violence.

Visitors

Must leave by 9.30pm. Overnight stay (max 3 consecutive nights) if 18+ and permitted.

Nearest Train Station is Leicester Train station (LEI) – 2minute walking distance from East Street, Aylestone Centre is on multiple Arriva bus routes including 84, 84A, 85 and 87.

Volunteering

We welcome volunteers who would like to donate a variety of skills to work with our homeless community. All volunteers must apply through our website. Please call on 0116 244 0562.

Donations
