Who is the project for?

Who do we help?

Single people sleeping rough, or with a recent history of sleeping out, who have mental health problems (though not necessarily a clinical diagnosis). Priority given to people with a local connection to Southwark. Target 20% women and 20% people from black and minority ethnic groups. 10 flats are for permanent residents.

Who we cannot help

People who do not need the level of support provided by the project or who need 24 hour support from staff. Those whose main presenting issue is drugs/alcohol and not mental health. Those who have other move-on options available to them.

How to get a referral

Referral agencies

Only accept referrals from the START mental health team for single homeless people, Supported Living Team, and the Complex Needs Panel who act as gatekeepers. Do not accept self referrals.

Referral procedure

All referrals must go via START (South Thames Assessment, Resource and Training Team) or Supported Living Team, the Complex Needs Panel.

Length of stay

  • Minimum stay: 6 months
  • Maximum stay: 2 years

Support and accommodation

Support offered

12 staff, available Mon-Fri 8am-8pm, Sat-Sun 10am-6pm, emergency on-call system. Keywork system. Support plans drawn up between key worker and resident with emphasis on enabling resident define their own needs, reviewed every 6 months. Staff make referrals to specialist services where appropriate.

£14-£20pw required from residents in receipt of benefits.

  • Disabled facilities: Two flats fully accessible for wheelchair users, with aids and adaptations. Two buildings have a lift.

Rules and policies

House rules and tenure

No alcohol in communal areas. Smoking allowed in own flats. Assured shorthold and assured tenancies. Excluded licence for crisis flat.

Visitors

1 overnight visitor per week with staff permission, some flexibility.
