Who is the project for?

Who do we help?

Single homeless people with low to medium support needs. Applicants must have a local connection to Gateshead.

Who we cannot help

People with convictions for violence, arson, crimes against children, sex offences or supply of illegal drugs. People with physical disabilities - the building is old.

How to get a referral

Referral agencies

Accept self referrals and referrals from any agency. Many referrals come from Gateshead Homelessness, No Second Night Out, Young People's Service, Shelter, mental health service. All referrals have to go through the Gateshead Portal.

Referral procedure

Interview, needs and risk assessments. Require proof of ID and background information from agencies involved with the applicant. Police vettings.

Length of stay

  • Minimum stay: 6 months
  • Maximum stay: 2 years

Support and accommodation

Support offered

7 staff, 24 hour waking cover. Keywork system (4-5 residents per key worker) with meetings held every 2 weeks or as required. Action plans with agreed outcomes reviewed at least fortnightly. Staff help with independent living skills, budgeting, mental health and substance misuse issues, liaison with specialist agencies and help with establishing social contacts and activities.

House rules and tenure

Residents must engage with keywork. No alcohol or smoking allowed in communal areas. Assured shorthold tenancy.

Visitors

2 visitors allowed up to 10pm. 1 overnight guest allowed up to 3 nights per week.
