Who is the project for?

Who do we help?

Families, couples and single people who present as homeless at City of York Council's Advice Centre and who are entitled to temporary accommodation under the homeless legislation, single homeless may also be entitled.May accept people with dogs in non-hostel accommodation.

Who we cannot help

Those who are not eligible for rehousing under the Housing Act.

How to get a referral

Referral agencies

Accept self referrals and referrals from any agency via the Customer Centre.

Referral procedure

Call in or phone Mon-Fri 8.30am-5pm. Application form completed by prospective resident. Emergency applicants should present before 3.30pm. All applicants have a risk assessment.

  • Minimum stay: 1 night
  • Maximum stay: None

Support and accommodation

Support offered

10 full time, 4 part time staff. 24 hour cover with warden/night porter at hostels. Staff visit residents in other accommodation. Emergency on-call system. Compulsory keywork system (25-50 residents per keyworker), meetings at least monthly. Action plans reviewed at each keywork meeting. Offer low support around housing issues and make referrals to other agencies for more specialised support.

House rules and tenure

Must participate in programme of support. Smoking in own accommodation only. Licence/Non-Secure Tenancy agreement.

Visitors

No overnight visitors in hostels unless there is medical need.
