Basis Yorkshire

Basis Yorkshire is one of twenty nine charities from across England, working with women who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, that has been awarded a grant from Homeless Link’s Ending Women’s Homelessness grants programme, funded by the Government’s Tampon Tax Fund.

Basis Yorkshire will be using this funding to systematically address hidden homeless of female sexworkers in Leeds, ensuring a gendered, trauma-informed approach to homelessness across Leeds. We will work closely with colleagues and statutory and third sector partners to identify and escalate issues raised by frontline staff, identify trends, blockages and adapt or reconfiguring pathways. The housing champion would also engage with peer research, share women’s stories and build capacity within the housing sector of working with female sexworkers.

Gemma Scire, CEO of Basis Yorkshire, said: “We are extremely pleased to have been awarded this grant, offering additional flexibility and capacity to address the housing needs of female sexworkers systemically, building on our expertise developed under our Housing First program to ensuring frontline staff can support women more effectively. We look forward to working closely with all our partners including the women we work with to embark on this exciting initiative.”
