You will be responsible for all aspects of our resettlement services; this will include assisting the Guests at the Shelter to make a successful transition from street life to community living. Our aim is to enable Guests to take advantage of the rehabilitation opportunities available and to provide continued support in meeting their needs. You must have had experience working with people who are homeless or otherwise marginalised and have an empathy with them and have had experience of resettlement work.

Manager (London), Crisis Christmas


(formerly Crisis Open Christmas)

This year we will looking to a recruit a Manager to prepare, co-ordinate and lead a service so that the recruited workers are prepared and supported to effectively link individuals into the most appropriate services and to robustly signpost individuals in accordance with their entitlements.

The Crisis Christmas will be building on the successful approach of engaging experienced housing workers to provide a good service to the guests at the event. We need workers who are committed and confident who can sensitively assess individuals so that those with entitlements are linked into the most appropriate accommodation and services, particularly reconnecting to their existing networks.

This is a challenging and rewarding position managing the expectation of guests and volunteers at the Crisis Christmas so that scarce resources are allocated on the basis of entitlement and needs. You will need to be familiar with the CHAIN database.

  1. Demonstrable managerial experience in a related field
  2. Good knowledge of voluntary sector resources and statutory rights of homeless people
  3. Ability to support workers and clients dealing with challenging behaviour

The pay will be £150 per day, £200 on public holidays and on-call rate of £50. Permission from your own line management must be sought and cannot be assumed. Payment will be via Crisis who will be your employer and the post will be a short-term secondment from your current employer..

The Open Xmas will open on Tuesday 23rd December and close on Tuesday 30th December 2008, but the expectation is that this service will be fully active on Wednesday 24th December, Boxing Day Friday 26th December, Sunday 28th December, and Monday 29th December. It is anticipated that the Manager will have to work approximately a further 7 days before and after the Open Christmas.

Chief Executive, Herts Young Homeless Group

We anticipate that this post will commence in mid-March 2009 Herts Young Homeless Group (HYHG) was established in 1998 to improve the provision and support for young people who are homeless or threatened with homelessness in Hertfordshire. HYHG has recently secured long term funding to provide core services across the county and is a well established organisation with an annual turnover of approximately 1.6 million.

Due to the planned retirement of our current Chief Executive we are looking to recruit into this post with an anticipated start date of mid-March 2009. We are looking for a person with strategic and business planning skills and the ability to lead manage and inspire staff. You will have strong communication, fundraising and partnership building skills and a proven track record of management at a senior level in the sector. Most importantly you will have a genuine enthusiasm and passion for the work of HYHG and an empathy with homeless young people.

Assistant Manager (Cambridge), Jimmys Night Shelter

Jimmy’s Night Shelter is looking forward to an exciting period of development as we refurbish our current premises to provide a 24-hour service to our guests. It is anticipated that the new centre will provide facilities and opportunities for guests to engage with project workers who will both assess their housing needs and provide activities/training to help them successfully move on to more permanent, sustainable accommodation.

We are currently looking to appoint a manager to oversee the effective delivery of the night service. The successful candidate will have an understanding of homelessness and be able to support staff through a period of change. The role will require regular working in the evenings.

Appointment of New Chair and Board Members for Housing Justice

Housing Justice is a national voice for Christian action in the field of housing and homelessness, active through churches and projects around the country, with offices in central London. Our vision is a society where every person has access to a home that truly meets their needs.

Chair:

We are looking for someone to lead the Board of Trustees through a challenging period of transition. Can you assist in providing strategic direction and oversight to grow and develop both the work and the organisation? To undertake this role you will have strong leadership skills, think strategically; communicate effectively and be an excellent ambassador representing the organisation at the highest levels. You should have solid experience of the voluntary sector, ideally within the housing field. The role requires somebody who is a practising Christian with knowledge of the denominations and able to reflect theologically in the public arena.

Board Members:

Members are also needed to join our board to help shape future strategy and achieve our mission. We would like applicants from a variety of backgrounds including those with housing, policy, business, marketing, media, fundraising and campaigning skills. We would particularly welcome applicants from ethnic minority backgrounds and women who are currently underrepresented on our board.
