Audit Commission Publish New Guidance for Housing Inspectors

Following consultation, the Audit Commission has published new guidance for housing inspectors on homelessness and housing advice

From February 2008 inspectors will be looking at how effectively an authority's homelessness strategy "sets out plans for access to appropriate move on accommodation for those that no longer require residential support"

The guidance suggests that an organisation delivering an excellent service should have a "highly effective homelessness strategy action plan which is implementing a range of initiatives that look to (among others):

  • help understanding of the level of move on need in the area and
  • plan access to appropriate move on accommodation for those that no longer require residential support."

Implementation of the MOPP with voluntary sector partners could help authorities achieve all the above
