Welfare Benefits
This page covers the issue of welfare benefits, particularly as it affects homeless people.
What's New?
- A coalition of agencies including the British Property Federation has launched a campaign to abolish the Single Room Rent, which limits the housing benefit payable to people under 25.
The Issues
Many homeless people are dependent on welfare benefits as poverty is both a cause and an effect of homelessness. The government's welfare reforms are aimed at enabling people who have been excluded from the workforce to work.
The Government has now published its Welfare Reform Bill. See Homeless Link's response, in collaboration with Off the Streets and into Work (OSW), to the Green Paper.
