Housing Corporation funding round prioritises tackling homelessness

2007-09-05 04:31 PM

The prospectus is now out for the next round of Housing Corporation funding applications - a real opportunity for homelessness charities.

Sections particularly relevant to homelessness charities (pp 19-20) emphasise the focus on homelessness.

The document firmly establishes the principle of ensuring that the needs of vulnerable people are met in general needs housing, and encourages both housing associations and new entrants to bid for the provision of housing of all stock types for vulnerable people. There is also an emphasis on appropriate provision of housing and floating support, as well as an encouragement to providers 'to bring forward gneeral needs properties as move-on accommodation from supported housing, where this is an identified priority'.

There is no explicit requirement for revenue funding before they invest in a supported housing project, but it is stressed that only projects meeting identified needs will be funded (including those for challenging groups).

Joint and individual capital funding opportunities for supported housing projects (for example, with joint funding through CLG’s Hostels Capital Improvement Programme) are encouraged.
