All Party Parliamentary Group

by gailemerson last modified 2007-10-10 01:02 PM

All Party Parliamentary Groups (APPG) are relatively informal groups concerned with a topic of common interest and are mainly composed of backbench MPs. The groups decide on their own specific aim, but generally exist as forums for MPs to discuss topics and raise the profile of the topic within Parliament. They are entirely voluntary and their strength depends on the interest and enthusiasm of their members.

The All Party Parliamentary Group on Homelessness and Housing Need’s aim is to raise the profile of homelessness in parliament to lead practical solutions to the problem. The group’s official purpose, chairpersons and some of its members can be found on Homelessness and Housing Need page in the Register of All Party Groups. (Please note: APPGs do not publish a full list of members, although they may choose to make it available to concerned parties).

Other All Party Groups that are concerned with issues around homelessness are the “Housing Care and Support”, “Housing Co-operatives and Community Controlled Housing” and “Foyers” groups. (Foyers are a network of organisations working to tackle disadvantage and homelessness in young people and are Homeless Link members.) There are several other groups on issues which may at times concern homelessness. The Register of All Party Groups shows the full list of groups.

What we do

Homeless Link maintains good relations with the Homelessness and Housing Need group, attending their annual meeting and other events and liasing with them as appropriate.

Housing Justice, one of Homeless Link’s members, provides administrative support to the group. For more information on Housing Justice’s work with the Group see their website .
