The power to change
City University, London 4 – 6 July 2006
In 2006 our annual conference was packed with topical issues, exciting speakers, and a varied programme of learning and networking activities. Over three thought-provoking days delegates explored the opportunities and potential for achieving positive change at every level, from national, to regional and local, to individual and from this, how to leverage change to help end homelessness.
The power to change was a key event for decision makers and frontline workers, voluntary sector chief executives and senior management, and staff working in local authorities, housing associations and PCTs. The conference provided a cross-sector forum for the launch of Homeless Link’s Campaign to end homelessness, exploring how this fits with other important developments for everyone involved with homelessness.
The event featured
- Yvette Cooper MP, Minister for Housing and Planning, on current homelessness strategy
- Debate and interaction with senior government officials
- Streamed programme of workshops tailored to meet your requirements
- Exclusive taster session from Homeless Link’s forthcoming masterclass series for senior management
- Social and cultural programme to complement the main programme
- Michael Whippman award presentations
We asked delegates for their best conference features...
- Identifying the best work around
- Having such a wide collection of agencies allowed plenty of views and approaches to be exchanged. Government perspectives good.
- Range of speakers, and hence ability to cover a breadth of issues. Well drafted and constructed programme
- Terrie Alafat. Gerard Lemos. Was looking for info on national policies and good working practices. Answered this and enabled us to prepare
- All speakers were very well-prepared. Administration was excellent
- The plenaries – allow you to hear AND engage with the current issues and government policy. Same is true of question panels
- Jenny Edwards (Chief Executive, Homeless Link), putting forward a vision and Simon’s (Chair of Homeless Link board) positive attitude and a clear message that Homeless Link is a much more professional and sleek organisation, it knows where it’s going and what it means to do. It radiated confidence that the previous incarnations never had and there is a feeling that something can be done.
- Discussions (plenary) and feeling part of something. Confirmation of what we know
