South West Conference

PATH and Homeless Link developed and ran a conference in Torquay entitled Partnership, Pathways and Problem Solving. The aim of the day was for it be very participative and to look at practical ways to resolve issues faced by agencies and to develop contacts. Guest speakers included Phil Harris, assistant director of housing at Plymouth Council and Maff Potts from the ODPM, responsible for change up and capital improvement programme and David Curtis from the Government Office South West.

Workshops for the day included accessing drug services from Torbay DAAT, working with drinkers from Exeter SHOT, Education and training from Shekinah and BITC, Dealing with difficult behaviour from Zebra Training and accessing the private rented sector from PATH and Homes4Let in Poole, sexual health from Eddystone Trust, Tenant Participation from Plymouth City Council and making hostels places of change from Maff Potts and Rebecca Sycamore, Homeless Link.

The day involved the screening of good practice DVD’s which will be launched in March by the ODPM, based on beacon councils and feature examples such as partnership working and how to develop in areas such as mediation or outreach.

See the slides from the SHOT workshop, on provision, good practice and useful websites.
