Places of Change in London
Homeless Link's CLG-funded work in London is focused on making hostels, day centres and other homelessness-related projects "Places of change". This involves significant changes to both the fabric of projects and the way that they work with people.

What's New?
- Communities and Local Government has announced £70 million investment to expand the Places of Change programme to more hostels and day centres across the country. Homeless Link has organised a number of briefing sessions to give guidance around funding applications for the new Places of Change programme.
- Homeless Link has been commissioned by Communities and Local Government (CLG) to support and administer a £450,000 grants scheme to help services working with homeless people provide positive activities. The Activating Places of Change grants are only available to services that have received funding under the CLG's Hostels Capital Improvement Programme (HCIP).
Positive Activities
A key part of Homeless Link's work towards the "Places of Change" agenda is encouraging hostels and other services to provide the support and opportunities to help homeless people and hostel residents in particular to engage in positive activities that will help them deal with some of the difficulties associated with their homelessness and move forward with their lives.
Education, Training and Employment
A number of opportunities exist to encourage homeless people, many of whom have had a poor experience of formal education, to take part in education and training. These include the Learning Power Award.
Hostels and Move-on
Hostels Capital Improvement Programme (HCIP)
A major part of regional managers' work is supporting the Department of Communities and Local Government's Hostels Capital Improvement Programme.
Evictions and exclusions
Another important area of work is helping hostels reduce the number of people they evict and/or exclude.
Move-on
Homeless Link's regional work places a strong emphasis on encouraging hostels and residents to look at alternative move-on options, including the private sector. Homeless Link also runs an innovative project on this issue.
