Course spotlights
Effective keyworking
25 October 2007, London
Keyworking is a tool for enabling a better quality of life. This course helps the keyworker develop skills and models for fulfilling that role more effectively, and this often involves helping a person to understand how and what to change. It illustrates how to see keyworking as a cooperative task and as one of the central services of your organisation, as well as how to enable the client to change and develop. Some of the changes are practical while others are about gaining confidence, or coping with difficult situations. Keyworkers have to respond to a wide range of needs, tailoring their style to the individual within the context of the organisation’s own work.
Working with clients from the new EU member states
8 November 2007, London
When the EU expanded on 2004, limitations were placed on the entitlements of citizens from the Accession 8 (A8) countries – Poland, Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia, Slovenia, Slovakia, Hungary and the Czech Republic. These citizens are a growing client group for many services, and this course provides an overview of the law regarding this group and considers the practical challenges for services in meeting the needs of these clients.
How to manage and prevent evictions
20 November 2007, London
Securing positive outcomes such as a reduction in evictions is essential for those managing hostels and supported housing, particularly when meeting funder requirements. This course will equip you with the understanding and practical skills needed to manage and prevent evictions, looking at good practice in the area, how to make effective use of procedures, and how to effectively manage the behaviour of your residents. It includes key communication skills such as negotiation and feedback, and offers a framework for managing resident behaviour. It will illustrate the best practice within the homelessness sector in managing evictions, and you will be trained to use housing management procedures as an opportunity for successful planning.
