Getting homeless people into education and employment

This course will build a skills and knowledge base which will enable you as a worker to effectively assess the education, employment and training needs of a homeless client and to plan their progress effectively.

Who should attend?

Frontline workers in hostels and day centres, meaningful activity workers. Workers specialising in supporting clients in education, employment and training.

Course objectives

Homeless clients face a number of barriers in accessing education, employment and training. These range from resistant organisational culture to opening a bank account when you can find a job. This course will build a skills and knowledge base which will enable you as a worker to effectively assess the education, employment and training needs of a homeless client and to plan their progress effectively. It will also look at how to provide on going support through this process, the resources and government initiatives available and how to negotiate the benefits maze.
