This page featutes Focus Futures' foyer and Snow Hill hostel in Birmingham. Although neither has been funded through the Hostels Capital Improvement Programme, in design terms both are good examples of the "Places of Change" ethos.

The Foyer

  • The Foyer

offers young

people a non

institutionalised

environment

where they

can address

their issues

and move

forward

in their

lives.

foyerreception.jpg
  • Within the

Foyer, the

reception

has a light

and open

feel.

It was designed

to break down

the barriers

between the

foyer's staff

and its

service users.

foyercorridor.jpg
  • This corridor

in the Foyer

is a good

example of the

way that

inside space

has been

designed to

maximise

light, making

the building

feel safer and

more welcoming.

Snow Hill Hostel

  • The Hostel

was designed

like a hotel

to move away

from the feel

of a traditional

hostel. It

takes its styling

cues from the

art deco era of

the building's

construction.

  • Again the

hostel lobby

has been

designed to

break down the

institutional

barriers and

to provide

a welcoming

environment

for all who

use it.
